Early Life and Education
Jeon Hye Jin, born on August 10, 1976, in Ulsan, South Korea, never considered acting as a serious career path despite her love for cinema. However, a chance encounter with director Yo Kyung Dong at a coffee shop changed everything. He invited her to audition for his film, "A Killing Story."
Through this project, Jeon met Im Sang Woo, the artistic director of theater company Chaimu, who introduced her to the captivating world of theater. She attended Taehyun Elementary School and the all-girls Daesun Middle School in her hometown. Later, she pursued a degree in film directing at Sungmoon University. Little is known about her family life, except that she has an older brother and her mother passed away on March 6, 2019.
Film and Television Career
Jeon Hye Jin's cinematic journey began with minor roles in "A Killing Story," "Lie," and "All for Love." Her first breakthrough came in 2004 with the drama "Sorry, I Love You," which was remade into a Japanese version thirteen years later. In 2006, her performance in the historical drama "Sa-do" earned her the KBS Drama Award, followed by the Blue Dragon Award, Korean Association of Film Producers Award, and KOFRA Film Award for her role in "The King's Wrath" in 2015.
She has also captivated audiences with her roles in the television series "Mistress," "Search: WWW," "Stranger," and "Uncle," as well as the action thriller "The Beast," a remake of the French film "36 Quai des Orfèvres."
Theater Accomplishments
Jeon Hye Jin's talent as a stage actress was nurtured by the Chaimu theater company. From the mid-1990s until 2016, she graced the Daehak-ro, Cultural Center Small Theater, Seongnam Arts Center, Myeongdong Arts Theatre, and many other cultural venues with her diverse performances in plays such as "Almost, Maine" and "Shape."
Personal Life
On May 23, 2009, after seven years of dating, Jeon Hye Jin married actor Lee Sun Gyun, known for his roles in "Helpless," "My Wife Is a Gangster 3," "A Hard Day," and the Oscar-winning film "Parasite." The couple had two children: their first son, Lee Ruk, was born on November 25, 2009, and their second son, Lee Run, was born on August 9, 2011.

Recent Years

The end of 2023 brought devastating news for Jeon Hye Jin. On December 27, her husband, Lee Sun Gyun, was found dead in his car in a park in central Seoul. A charcoal briquette, commonly used in suicides in South Korea, was found on the passenger seat next to him. Prior to his death, Jeon had called the police after discovering a letter from her husband that appeared to be a suicide note.
