Jérémy Janot: A Legendary Goalkeeper

Early Career and Arrival at Saint-Étienne

Jérémy Janot, a renowned French goalkeeper, began his professional career in 1996 after signing for AS Saint-Étienne, a club then playing in the French second division. During his first season (1996/97), he made 14 appearances.

Rise to Prominence and Record-Breaking Streak

Janot's breakthrough came in the 2002/03 season, where he established himself in the starting lineup with 28 appearances. The following season (2003/2004), he became a key player, featuring in 37 games as Saint-Étienne secured promotion to Ligue 1. From then on, he solidified his position as the team's primary goalkeeper.

In the 2004/05 season, Janot etched his name into the record books by going 1534 minutes without conceding a goal in home league matches. His incredible streak spanned from 6 November 2004 to 21 September 2005, ensuring Saint-Étienne's home ground, Geoffroy-Guichard, remained unbeatable.

Spider-Man Goalie and Critical Acclaim

Janot gained international attention in 2005 when he took to the field for a league match against FC Istres wearing a Spider-Man costume. Although he removed the mask before the game commenced, the stunt cemented his reputation as a colorful and entertaining figure.

His exceptional performances were recognized in the 2006/2007 season when he was named Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year by L'Equipe.

Loan Spells and Change of Clubs

In 2012, Janot was loaned to FC Lorient for the remainder of the season to replace the injured Fabien Audard. Later that year, he joined Le Mans on a three-year contract.

Unfortunately, his time at Le Mans was cut short due to a bankruptcy in 2013, leaving him clubless.

Retirement and Legacy

In July 2014, Jérémy Janot announced his retirement from football after an illustrious career. Known for his exceptional skills, charisma, and unforgettable Spider-Man moment, he remains a legend among AS Saint-Étienne fans and beyond.
