Biography of Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin, an American basketball player, was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Palo Alto. His parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan in the mid-70s, initially settling in Virginia before moving to Indiana. The influence of his parents played a significant role in Jeremy's passion for sports. His father, Lin Gie-Ming, personally taught him and his brothers how to play basketball at the local Young Men's Christian Association, while his mother, Shirley Lin, founded the National Junior Basketball program in Palo Alto.
Although Shirley faced criticism for allowing Jeremy to spend too much time on the court, she recognized his extraordinary abilities and knew that he enjoyed the game. After high school, Lin sent his resume to several top universities in the country. Some universities offered him admission without an athletic scholarship, as Ivy League schools like Harvard and Brown did not offer sports scholarships at the time.
Despite not receiving an athletic scholarship, Jeremy enrolled at Harvard. In his first year, he was considered the weakest player on the team due to his physical limitations. However, he significantly improved his performance in the second season and continued to excel. Despite his promising prospects, no NBA team expressed interest in drafting him, which was not surprising considering the rarity of Ivy League players making it to the NBA.
Jeremy was invited by at least eight teams for tryouts, but these tryouts were limited in format, preventing him from fully showcasing his abilities. Eventually, on July 21, 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Golden State Warriors, his childhood favorite team. Although other teams offered him more lucrative contracts, Jeremy couldn't pass up the opportunity to play with his childhood heroes.
During his first season with the Warriors, Jeremy had limited playing time but received positive evaluations. The team's management stated that he may not become a star, but he could be a valuable player. On December 27, 2011, Jeremy signed a contract with the New York Knicks. Although his time with the team was relatively short, he made a positive impression. Encouraged by the team's management and his teammates, Jeremy sought out more enticing offers, leading him to join the Houston Rockets.
