After studying at the Graphic Department of the Katowice branch of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, he graduated in 1968 and remained at the academy as a teacher. He later taught at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw (1992-2001) and the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Beksiński's work is characterized by its grotesque and surreal imagery, often depicting desolate landscapes and haunting figures. His paintings reflect the gray, industrial landscape of Upper Silesia, where he lived and worked. His subjects are often depicted without embellishment, showing them as frail, disheveled, and sometimes intoxicated. Influences and Inspiration
Art critic Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz noted the influence of Pieter Bruegel the Elder on Beksiński's work. His painting "The Horsemen of the Apocalypse, or the Fiasco" (1977) exemplifies his style. It depicts three unkempt concrete workers pulling a cement mixer, evoking both traditional equestrian paintings and a sense of absurdity.

The Chopin Cycle
In 1999-2003, Beksiński created a significant cycle of approximately 300 works dedicated to the composer Frédéric Chopin. The cycle was first presented at the 2005 World Expo in Nagoya, Japan. Each work was numbered, which helps identify forgeries.
