The Doll Collector from Singapore - Jian Yang

Jian Yang, also known as the doll collector from Singapore, has amassed a collection of over 6,000 Barbie dolls and around 3,000 other dolls. He has dedicated twenty years of his life and spent half a million dollars on his hobby. However, Jian admits that his collection has often posed challenges in his relationships with women.

Early Years and Passion for Dolls

Jian Yang, born in Singapore, discovered his love for dolls as a teenager. Despite societal norms associating doll collecting with females, Jian's passion for dolls remained steadfast. Even when his parents prohibited him, at the age of 13, from purchasing a doll he adored, Jian couldn't stop thinking about it. He would spend hours admiring dolls in shop windows and longed for the day when he could buy all the beautiful dolls he desired.

A Remarkable Collection

After two decades, Jian Yang became the proud owner of an extraordinary collection. His collection consists of approximately 6,000 Barbie dolls, as well as 3,000 other types of dolls. Every inch of Jian's house is filled with dolls, from floor to ceiling in his living room. The house could easily be mistaken for a Doll Museum, with dolls reflected in numerous mirrors. Notably, doll collecting has become more than just a hobby for Jian Yang. He currently works as a Strategy Director at Omicom Media Group.

Diverse Dolls and Symbolic Figures

Among Jian's collection are notable dolls such as Princess Diana and Jackie Onassis, as well as unconventional choices like Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, James Bond, characters from Harry Potter, and Star Trek. Valuable pieces such as Grace Kelly, Sean Connery as Agent 007, and other collectible vintage Barbies also adorn Jian's shelves, each representing an era. However, Jian isn't particularly drawn to modern superhero dolls or vampire-themed dolls.

A Love Life Hindered by Dolls

Jian considers himself an ordinary guy, but he has noticed that his collection tends to alienate potential partners. Women who visit his house are intrigued by his dolls but often never return. Jian believes that women perceive his dolls as strong competitors for his attention. Despite this, Jian cannot bring himself to stop collecting dolls. For the past twenty years, it has been an integral part of his life. He acknowledges that his collection has grown to at least 9,000 dolls, which he acquires from all corners of the world with the help of his friends.

The Future of Jian Yang's Collection

When asked what he plans to do when his house can no longer accommodate his growing collection, Jian Yang laughs and says he will have to buy a new home.
