Jill Camarena is an American track and field athlete who specializes in shot put. She is currently based in Tucson, Arizona, and competes for the New York Athletic Club (NYAC). She trains under the guidance of renowned former track and field star Craig Carter.
Early Life and Education
Jill Camarena was born on March 2, 1982, in California. She developed a passion for sports, particularly track and field, at a young age. She attended Woodland High School, where she excelled in her studies and athletics. After graduating with honors, she enrolled at Stanford University. In 2004, she graduated with a degree and numerous accolades, including athletic honors.
Athletic Career
Throughout her career, Jill Camarena has consistently performed at the highest level in shot put. In 2001, she competed in the Pan Am Juniors SP, SP at Pac-10 Championships, NCAA Outdoors, and USA Juniors SP. The following year, she placed third in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, ninth in the USA Outdoors, and fifth in the NCAA Indoors.
In 2003, she participated in the NCAA Indoor Championships, NCAA West Regional, USA Outdoors, and NCAA Outdoors, showcasing her exceptional talent in each event. In 2004, she achieved a third-place finish at the SP at U.S. Olympic Trials, second place at the SP at Cardinal Invitational, and second place at the NCAA Indoors.
Camarena continued to excel in 2005 and 2006, demonstrating her dominance in shot put competitions. In 2007, she competed in the USA Outdoor, World Outdoors, Stanford Invitational, Pan Am Games, Triton Invitational, and events held in cities such as Fortaleza, Provo, and Belem.
Olympic Games
After successfully qualifying through the pre-Olympic trials, Jill Camarena earned a spot on the United States Olympic team. She is currently representing the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
