Jimmy Destri, an American rock singer, songwriter, and producer, was born on April 13, 1954, in New York, USA. He is best known for his work with the band 'Blondie,' but his main occupation is at the Carnegie Hill Institute, where he works as a consultant and therapist in the field of drug addiction.

Early Life and Education

Jimmy Destri grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and has spent his entire 55 years in the city. He currently resides in Windsor Terrace with his wife, Roberta, his 12-year-old son James (from his first wife, Eileen), and his 4-year-old daughter, Rienne.

Music Career

Destri's interest in music began at a young age. At the age of 7, he started learning to play the drums, bass guitar, and piano and began writing his own music. Inspired by the Beatles and the music scene of the 1960s, Destri decided to pursue a career in music. He formed his first serious band, '86 Proof,' and performed at various venues, mostly local schools.

In 1975, Destri's life took a turn when he met Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, and Clem Burke. Together, they formed the band 'Blondie,' in which Destri not only played but also composed some of their hit songs. The band gained fame, but with it came addiction.

Work at Carnegie Hill Institute

After overcoming his own struggles with addiction, Destri decided to shift his focus and help others. While he still creates songs for 'Blondie,' he no longer performs with the band. In addition to his work with 'Blondie' and at the Carnegie Hill Institute, Jimmy Destri released a solo album titled 'Heart on a Wall.' He has also written songs for other artists, including Prince and 'INXS.' Destri considers himself fortunate to have found not one but two callings in life. He believes that he has been able to make a difference in the lives of others and finds great happiness in his work and family.
