Joan Marsh, born Nancy Ann Rosher, was an American film actress. She was born in 1913 in Porterville, California, USA, to Charles Rosher, a well-known cinematographer at the time. At just 9 months old, Joan appeared in the film "Hearts Aflame" by Universal Pictures, released in 1915. It is known that she became a favorite of renowned director and actress of the silent film era, Mary Pickford.

Early Career

Joan Marsh started her career as a child actress, appearing in numerous films. However, she did not focus on her education during her childhood and dropped out of a couple of private schools. Despite this, Joan managed to transition to more meaningful roles and establish herself as a mature actress. In the 1930s, she appeared in films such as the drama "Three Girls Lost" (1931) alongside Loretta Young, the comedy "You're Telling Me!" where she played the lead role opposite W.C. Fields, the melodrama "Anna Karenina" with Greta Garbo, and the comedy detective film "Charlie Chan on Broadway" in 1937. It was during this period that she started using the stage name "Joan Marsh," previously known as "Dorothy Rosher."

Personal Life and Later Career

While filming "Charlie Chan on Broadway," Joan Marsh met screenwriter Charles Belden, who later became her husband. Her career took a pause during this period. In 1943, the couple divorced, and within a year, Marsh starred in her last film, the comedy-action film "Follow the Leader." Throughout her career, Joan Marsh played over 60 roles, with many of them being during her childhood years. However, her acting career ended relatively early when she was around 30 years old, despite her evident talent, especially in comedy films. Additionally, Joan was known for her charming blonde appearance and voluptuous figure, which sometimes overshadowed her acting abilities.

Later Life and Death

After her acting career, Joan Marsh worked as a manager in a stationary store in Hollywood. After her first marriage ended, Marsh married John D. W. Morrill. She lived until the year 2000 and passed away on August 10th in California.
