Joanna Virginia Cassidy, an American film and television actress, was born on August 2, 1945, in Haddonfield, New Jersey, USA. She grew up in Haddonfield and attended an art school where she developed a passion for drawing and sculpting. Even in her youth, Joanna maintained these interests and when it was time to pursue higher education, she enrolled at Syracuse University in New York to study the arts.
During her university years, in addition to studying the arts, Cassidy got married to Kennard Cobrin, who was also studying medicine at the same university. She also began working as a model during this time. The couple later moved to San Francisco, where Cobrin established a psychiatric practice and Joanna continued her career in the modeling industry. They had two children together, but divorced in 1974. Joanna decided to stay in Los Angeles and pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
Initially, Cassidy appeared in several television series such as "Mission: Impossible," "Starsky & Hutch," and "Taxi" in minor roles. In 1979, she landed her first regular role in the adventure series "240-Robert," although it lasted only two seasons. This was followed by other television series and roles, with a notable highlight being the sitcom "Buffalo Bill," for which Cassidy won a Golden Globe in 1983.
In 1982, Joanna played her first significant role in the film "Blade Runner" directed by Ridley Scott. The following year, she starred in the film "Under Fire." From that point on, Cassidy appeared in both television series and films. Some of her notable works include "Murder, She Wrote," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Melrose Place," "Barb Wire," Stephen King's "The Tommyknockers," Wes Craven's "Vampire in Brooklyn," and many more.
In the more recent years, Cassidy's notable works include the film "Ghosts of Mars" directed by John Carpenter in 2000 and her appearances in two episodes of the famous TV series "Star Trek," for which she received an Emmy nomination in 2004. In spring 2007, Joanna reprised her role as Zhora the replicant from "Blade Runner." In the original 1982 film, a stunt double was used for the death scene, and it was evident that it was not Cassidy, as even the wigs were different. Therefore, two years ago, using digital technology, recent footage of Cassidy's face was merged with the original body actor's image from 30 years prior. Surprisingly, this idea was Cassidy's own.
In 2008 and 2009, Cassidy appeared in television series such as "Ghost Whisperer," "Desperate Housewives," and "Law & Order: UK." In addition, she starred in four feature films released in 2009 alone.
