Early Career and Club Success
João Miranda, a Brazilian central defender, began his professional career in his home state of Paraná with Coritiba. After a stint in France, he joined São Paulo in 2006.
During his time at São Paulo, Miranda formed part of an exceptional defensive trio alongside Breno and Alex Silva, helping the club to consecutive Brazilian league titles in 2007 and 2008. The following year, the trio was replaced by the equally impressive defensive line of Rodrigo, Miranda, and André Dias, which propelled São Paulo to a record third consecutive and sixth overall Brazilian championship title.
Move to Atlético Madrid and International Honours
In 2011, Miranda signed with Spanish club Atlético Madrid. He quickly established himself as a key player, contributing to the club's success in winning the La Liga title in 2013–14 and the UEFA Super Cup in 2012 and 2018.
Miranda's international debut for Brazil came in 2009. He was a member of the Brazilian squad at the 2015 Copa América and captained the team after Neymar's expulsion in the semi-final against Colombia.
Inter Milan and Later Career
On June 30, 2015, Miranda joined Italian club Inter Milan for a transfer fee of approximately €15 million. He spent four seasons at Inter, helping the club win the Serie A title in 2020–21.
After leaving Inter in 2019, Miranda had brief stints with Jiangsu Suning in China and São Paulo before retiring in 2022.
