Joaquin Guzman Loera, also known as El Chapo, is a Mexican drug lord, billionaire, and the most powerful drug trafficker in the world according to current information. Born in 1954 (or possibly 1957) in La Tuna, Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Mexico, Guzman grew up in extreme poverty. Tired of living in hardship, he turned to the more profitable business of drug trafficking, abandoning his previous job selling oranges.

In the 1980s, El Chapo worked with the "Godfather" Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo and was considered his apprentice. After Gallardo's arrest, Guzman broke up the Sinaloa Cartel and became the leader of his own organization.
