Joe Anderson is a British actor best known for his roles in films such as "Across the Universe," "Jane Austen," "Control," "The Ruins," "Crazy Heart," and "The Grey."

Early Life and Education

Joe Anderson was born in England to Miles Anderson and Leslie Duff, both of whom were relatively unknown actors. Despite his parents' profession, his father advised him not to follow in their footsteps and instead pursue a stable income job, such as being a mortician. Anderson attended Richmond upon Thames College and had a passion for mountaineering and photography. He initially aspired to become a director but lacked the financial means to pursue formal education in that field. As a result, he enrolled at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art to study acting. Anderson later explained that he chose acting as a career due to his dyslexia.

Acting Career

Anderson began his acting career in the mid-2000s, initially performing in the Chichester Theatre before transitioning to film and television roles. His breakthrough came in 2007 when he landed a major role in the musical film "Across the Universe," where he not only acted but also sang several songs by The Beatles. Despite limited musical experience, Anderson was chosen by director Julie Taymor primarily for his acting abilities.

In the same year, Anderson also appeared in other notable films such as "Control," where he portrayed Peter Hook, the bassist of the rock band Joy Division, and "Jane Austen," where he played Henry Austen, the older brother of the famous author. Anderson further explored his musical talents by portraying a bassist in the 2008 film "Club 27," which revolved around the music industry.

Anderson continued to gain recognition with his role as a sheriff's deputy in the 2010 horror film "The Crazies," a remake of George A. Romero's 1973 film "Crazy." He later appeared in two successful American films released in 2012, "The Grey" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." Additionally, Anderson secured a leading role in the television series "The River," which followed the search for a missing person in the Amazon rainforest. Unfortunately, the show was canceled by ABC after eight episodes.
