Early CareerJoe Grech, a Maltese snooker player, first made a mark on the local scene when he reached the finals of the Malta National Amateur Snooker Championship in 1976, ultimately losing to Paul Mifsud. However, he went on to claim the title six times between 1980-1981, 1987, 1997, and 1999-2000, further solidifying his dominance in Maltese snooker.
Professional Career
In 1989, Joe Grech turned professional and joined the World Snooker Tour, where he reached a career-high ranking of No. 68 in the 1990/91 season. While he did not achieve significant success on the professional circuit, he consistently reached the later stages of various tournaments. As a Maltese professional, he frequently received wildcards to local events, including the Malta Grand Prix and Malta Cup.
IBSF Achievements
In addition to his national titles, Joe Grech made a name for himself on the international stage. He reached the finals of the IBSF World Snooker Championship twice, in 1987 and 1997, claiming the championship in 1997. He went on to win the Maltese IBSF Snooker Championship for six consecutive years, from 2003 to 2008.
