Biography of Matthew Stevens

Matthew Stevens is a Welsh professional snooker player and one of the strongest snooker players from Wales. He joined the professional circuit in 1995 after achieving success in junior competitions.

Early Career

Matthew Stevens gained recognition after reaching the last 16 at the Grand Prix. In the first round, he defeated Dave Harold, who was ranked among the top 16 players in the world. He then went on to defeat former world champion Joe Johnson 5-1 before being stopped by the famous Englishman Steve Davis. Stevens also reached the last 32 at the British Open and the Welsh Open that year.

Breakthrough and Success

In 1996-1997 season, Stevens achieved a sensational victory over Stephen Hendry in the first round of the Grand Prix. However, he lost to Mark King in the second round.
