Johann Heinrich Krebs
Early Life and EducationJohann Heinrich Krebs was born in Billingen, Germany, and attended гимназии in Billingen and Konstanz. He briefly studied Catholic theology in Freiburg for two years.
Musical Career
In 1795, Krebs made his debut as a tenor soloist at the Württemberg Court Opera in Stuttgart, where he performed until 1828. In addition to singing, he was the stage director and wrote several librettos for the theater. Carl Maria von Weber composed the burlesque mini-opera "Anton" for Krebs' birthday in 1808 or 1809 (which is now lost).
Krebs also taught music, establishing his own Institute of Music from 1812 to 1818. Inspired by the teaching methods of Pestalozzi, he influenced students like the composer Carl August Krebs, whom he adopted and gave his last name.
Masonic Writings
Krebs is also renowned for his Masonic treatises, published under the pseudonym Johann Baptist Kerning. He was a devout Mason and wrote extensively on the subject.
