Childhood and Early Life

Dimash Kudaibergenov, a renowned Kazakhstani singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, was born in the city of Aktobe on May 24, 1994. His parents, Svetlana and Kanat Kudaibergenovich Aitbayev, are both esteemed cultural figures in Kazakhstan. Svetlana is a singer in the Aktobe philharmonic society, while Kanat holds the position of head of the city's culture department. He later became his son's producer. Dimash has two younger siblings: Raushan, a sister born in 2001, and Abilmansur, a brother born in 2007.

From a young age, the children were encouraged to engage in the arts and develop their talents. Svetlana Aitbayeva believes that children should acquire as many useful abilities as possible during their early years. It comes as no surprise that with such parents, Dimash began pursuing music at a tender age. He made his stage debut at the age of two, playing a small role in a local theater production.

Musical Beginnings

By the age of five, Dimash was enrolled in a music studio where he received vocal and piano lessons. It was also during this time that he first performed as a singer, captivating listeners with his exceptional voice. At the age of six, he won the national "Ainalaiyn" competition in the piano category. Four years later, at the age of ten, he was already hosting events of regional significance.

Dimash's first major award came in 2010 when he performed at the international festival "Zvukie Golosa Baikonyra" (Sounding Voices of Baikonur). In 2012, he won the Grand Prix at the "Zhas Kanat" national competition for young singers. The same year, he received first prize at the "Oriental Bazaar" television competition. A year later, he triumphed at the "Meikin Asia" international festival.

In 2014, Dimash graduated from the Zhubanov Music College in Aktobe, where he studied under Marat Aitsimov, who had also taught his mother. It was only natural that he decided to pursue higher education in music. He enrolled in the jazz vocal department of the Kazakh National University of Arts.

Vocal Prowess and Early Success

Dimash's musical potential continued to shine brighter with time. His vocal range was discovered to span an impressive six octaves. According to experts, he cannot be classified as a countertenor because he can access both bass notes and falsetto. Dimash's timbre is that of a lyric tenor. He is highly skilled in the bel canto singing technique, which allows him to fully showcase the nuances of his vocal talent.

Breakthrough at the "Slavianski Bazaar"

A pivotal moment in Dimash's career occurred at the 2015 "Slavianski Bazaar" song festival, traditionally held in Vitebsk, Belarus. His performance at the competition was so successful that he instantly transformed from a talented Kazakhstani singer to a widely recognized artist throughout the post-Soviet region.

In the first round, Dimash sang "Daididau" and scored 89 points, edging out his closest rival, Valeria Gribusova from Belarus, by 4 points. The second round saw him perform Konstantin Meladze's popular Russian song "Opat Metel" (Again the Blizzard), earning 86 points, tying with Valeria. For the third round, Dimash chose "Sos dun terien un detresse" by the French singer Grégory Lemarchal.

Ultimately, Dimash won the "Slavianski Bazaar" Grand Prix with a total of 175 points out of a possible 180. He also received a monetary prize of $20,000. For his extraordinary voice and ability to navigate even the most challenging notes, Dimash earned the nickname "Kazakhstani Vitas." By that time, the number of followers on his Instagram account had already exceeded one million.

International Recognition

In the same year, Dimash represented Kazakhstan at the ABU TV Song Festival in Istanbul. In 2016, he was awarded a state scholarship by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the then-President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Dimash's repertoire includes songs in Russian, Spanish, English, French, and other languages. His rendition of "Belovezhskaya Pushcha" at the opening of the 2016 "Slavianski Bazaar" was well-received by Russian-speaking audiences. He has collaborated with fellow Kazakhstani musicians such as Maira and Alisher Karimov.

Chinese Success and Controversy

In early 2017, Dimash participated in the popular singing competition "I am a Singer" in China. He captivated the audience with his performance of "Sos dun terien un detresse." His charismatic personality and exceptional vocal abilities made him an instant favorite. All of Dimash's performances in China have garnered millions of views on YouTube.

He also performed a stunning rendition of Vitas's "Opera #2," also known by its opening line, "Dom moy dostroen" (My home is built). His interpretation of this popular Chinese hit, while earning him the admiration of the audience, also brought him some legal troubles. Vitas's producer, Sergey Pudovkin, allegedly filed a lawsuit for unauthorized use of the song.

Second Place in "I am a Singer" and Global Impact

Dimash's performance of "Adagio" by Lara Fabian, which he accompanied himself on piano, was particularly impressive. His virtuoso and heartfelt rendition of the song made him a favorite in the competition, and he ultimately placed second. His success in China opened up new avenues for him in Asia and around the world.

In December 2017, Dimash signed a contract with designer Gokó Zaldi, who had previously worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. With his tall and slender build and naturally curly hair, Dimash turned heads wherever he went. His mother expressed joy that foreign stylists decided not to straighten his hair.

According to the YouTube channel TC Candler, Dimash was named one of the "100 Most Handsome Faces of 2017," ranking 76th. He stands at 191 cm (6'3") tall with a lean physique.

In January 2018, Dimash was invited to the Global Golden Chart Awards ceremony in China, where he was honored as the "Best Artist."

Return to Kazakhstan and International Appearances

Dimash is rightfully considered a star on the international stage. Kazakhstan is proud of his achievements, and he was one of the main performers at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Universiade in Almaty. He performed a duet with Zarina Altynbaeva of a song specifically composed for the occasion.

Passionate about music, Dimash finds joy both in his profession and in his personal life. He appeared as a guest performer at the "New Wave 2018" international music competition, where he sang Igor Krutoy's "Greshnaya Strazh" (Sinful Passion).

In November 2018, Dimash embarked on a tour of Russia. He made his debut at the Moscow Kremlin Palace with a rendition of "Lyubov Ustavshikh Lebidey" (Love of Exhausted Swans) by Igor Krutoy. The new interpretation of this song from Lara Fabian's repertoire resonated deeply with Russian audiences. Dimash's fans even created a mock-up video of his performance on the American television show "X-Factor," which at one point featured Britney Spears as a judge.

Personal Life and Business Ventures

Dimash keeps his romantic relationships private. He was particularly protective of his personal life while in China after his bright victory at the international vocal competition. He instantly became an idol for millions of Chinese women, who began pursuing him wherever he went.

According to his family, the singer has found his soulmate. Dimash is in a relationship with Nursaule Aubakirova, and there are many photos of the couple together on her Instagram account. Nursaule studies directing at Kazakh National University of Arts, the same university Dimash attended. The two met and fell in love while they were students. Fans hope that Nursaule will become Dimash's wife, but there has been no talk of marriage yet, despite their long-term relationship.

Beyond music, the singing star has also discovered his talent for business. Together with his friend Damir Muratty, he launched a brand that produces elite tea and chocolate. The brand has gained recognition not only in Kazakhstan but also in Europe, the United States, and Latin America.

Recent Accomplishments and Future Plans

Dimash's creative life is full of exciting events. In early 2019, he participated in the American competition "The World's Best" on CBS, where the judges included actress Drew Barrymore, television host RuPaul Andre Charles, and singer Faith Hill. Dimash, who the judges dubbed "the man with six octaves," was joined on the show by another talented vocalist from Kazakhstan, Daneliya Tuleshova, winner of the Ukrainian version of "The Voice Kids."

The singers competed in the Solo Music category and advanced to the semi-finals along with Indian pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram. Dimash earned top marks in all of his performances, making him a strong contender for the finals and the overall victory. However, in a surprising move, the vocalist announced that he would withdraw from the competition voluntarily, giving younger participants a chance to showcase their talents. An Indian musician ultimately won the competition.
