Early Life and UniversityKarl Heinrich Ludwig Pölitz was born on September 28, 1772, in Eisleben, Germany. He initially studied at the University of Halle but was captivated by the philosophical teachings of Immanuel Kant. In 1788, he arranged for his transfer to the University of Königsberg, where he became an avid student of Kant.
Close Association with Kant
For nearly a year, Pölitz attended Kant's lectures and formed a deep bond with the philosopher. In letters, he expressed his profound admiration for Kant, referring to him as his second father. However, their relationship would later be strained following the publication of Pölitz's work in 1791.

In 1791, Pölitz published "Grundri? einer reinen allgemeinen Logik, nach Kantischen Grunds?tzen," a textbook based on Kant's philosophical principles. Kant, however, condemned the work as plagiarism, leading to a rift between the two scholars.
Literary Legacy
Despite the controversy, Pölitz's textbook gained widespread recognition. Leo Tolstoy referenced it as an example of a syllogism in his novel "The Death of Ivan Ilyich." Its influence extended well beyond academia, reaching the literary realm.
Later Career
After leaving Königsberg, Pölitz served as a tutor to the children of Frederick William II. He subsequently became a professor of logic at the Military Academy, where he continued his research and teaching in the field of logical thought.
