Early Life and Education

Johann Peter Langewas born on April 10, 1802, in Bergisches Land, Germany, to Johann Peter Lang (later Lange), a farmer and hauler, and Amalia Harenfeld, the daughter of a pastor. In 1821, he graduated from secondary school in Düsseldorf. From 1822 to 1825, he studied theology at the University of Bonn.

Pastoral Ministry

In 1826, Lange became a pastor in various parishes in the Rhineland. In 1839, he succeeded Julius Müller at the University of Marburg.

Academic Career

From 1841 to 1854,Lange served as Professor of Dogmatics and Church History at the University of Zurich.

In 1854,he became Professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Bonn.

Ecclesiastical Appointments

From 1860 to 1875,Lange was a Consistorial Councilor in Koblenz. From 1875 onwards,he served as Senior Ecclesiastical Councilor.

Scholarly Contributions

Lange was one of the most influential positive theologians of his time. He authored numerous theological works, including:

- "The Life of Jesus According to the Illustrated Gospels" (1844–1847)

- "Christian Dogmatics" (1849–1852)

- "Theological-Homiletical Bible Commentary" (1861–1877)
