Born in North Bergen, New Jersey, John Owen Brennan attended the American University in Cairo, Egypt and completed his undergraduate degree at Fordham University. He later obtained a master's degree from the University of Texas.

Career at the CIA

Brennan joined the CIA in 1980, starting his career as an analyst of the Middle East and South Asia. He served as the chief of the CIA's station in Saudi Arabia and led the terrorism analysis center. During his time as press secretary, Brennan provided daily intelligence briefings to the White House under President Bill Clinton.

Work in the Private Sector

After serving as the interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Brennan left the government and became the president of the consulting firm 'The Analysis Corporation'. He also served as an intelligence advisor during Barack Obama's presidential campaign in 2008.

This secret meeting allegedly resulted in the decision to carry out a large-scale anti-terrorist operation in southeastern Ukraine. However, a spokesperson for the CIA promptly denied that John Brennan influenced the Ukrainian authorities to use force against protesters. The spokesperson also stated that Brennan believed the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow could only be resolved through diplomatic means.
