Biography of John Ellis
John Ellis, an American jazz musician and saxophonist, was born in 1974 in North Carolina, USA. He began taking piano lessons as a child and later started learning the clarinet. Ellis became passionate about music after hearing the legendary composer Scott Joplin. Influenced by musicians Ellis Marsalis and Walter Payton, he moved to New Orleans where he played with the band 'Double-Wide' before eventually relocating to New York City.
Early Career
After graduating from New School, Ellis performed at various jazz venues in the city. He spent six years playing with jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter and participated in the recording of four albums with him.
Solo Projects
In 1996, Ellis released his debut album 'The Language of Love'. Several years later, he released 'Roots, Branches and Leaves' in 2002, which was well-received by jazz enthusiasts. This was followed by 'One Foot in the Swamp' in 2005 and 'By a Thread' in 2006, both of which garnered warm reception from the jazz community. In 2008, Ellis collaborated with 'Double-Wide' on the album 'Dance Like There's No Tomorrow'.
