Biography of John Fentener van Vlissingen

John Fentener van Vlissingen, a Dutch businessman, is considered one of the wealthiest individuals in the Netherlands. According to the magazine 'Quote', the total wealth of the van Vlissingen family amounts to approximately 9.2 billion euros. John Fentener's personal fortune is estimated to be around 1.6 billion euros.

Among his three brothers - the eldest Fritz, who passed away in March 2006, and the youngest Paul, who died in August of the same year - John is the only one whose career was not connected to the family enterprise, 'SHV Holdings'. Instead, he founded his own company called 'BCD Holdings N.V.'.

Born on March 4, 1939, in Utrecht, John Fentener van Vlissingen's entrepreneurial journey led him to establish 'BCD Holdings', which holds leading positions in the tourism industry. This privately managed Dutch company was founded by John in 1975 and includes subsidiaries such as 'BCD Travel' (global corporate travel management), 'Travix' (online travel), 'Park 'N Fly' (off-airport parking), 'TRX' (transaction processing and data integration), 'Airtrade' (consolidation and fulfillment), 'VakantieXperts' (leisure), and 'Parkmobile International' (mobile parking and routing applications).

With approximately 13,500 employees, 'BCD Holdings' operates in over 90 countries, and its total sales, including franchise, reach 20.3 billion US dollars. Interestingly, when 'BCD Holdings' was just starting to develop in 1975, it initially focused on real estate. In 1976, the company was renamed 'NORO' due to the unavailability of the name 'NIRO'. In 1986, 'BCD' was established after the separation of the consulting management and investment divisions of 'NORO'.

In 1987, the company acquired 'WorldTravel Advisors'. In 1999, the merger between 'WorldTravel Advisors' and 'BTI Americas' created the company 'WorldTravel BTI'. In 2006, 'WorldTravel BTI' was renamed 'BCD Travel', and the German company 'TQ3' was acquired, leading to the dissolution of the 'BTI' brand. This amalgamation resulted in the creation of the third-largest travel company in the United States.

Outside of his business ventures, John is an avid supporter of the football club 'Volendam' and has expressed interest in acquiring the English club 'Liverpool Football Club'. His wife is known to be a fan of Scottish tennis player Andy Murray, who was ranked as the third-best tennis player in the world.
