Biography of John Havlicek
John Havlicek, the basketball player of the "Motor" golden team of the "Boston Celtics", was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on April 8, 1940. After completing his education at Ohio State University, he joined the Boston Celtics in 1962 and played for them for 16 years.
The Hardworking Player
Havlicek amazed spectators and experts with his unprecedented work ethic, constant activity, and willingness to do any dirty work for the team. On the court, he constantly moved around, confusing opponents with his maneuvers. Despite his height of 195 cm and weight of 93 kg, he was always the first to sprint ahead as soon as his team gained possession of the ball under their own hoop. Playing equally well as a defender and attacker, Havlicek was a true team player, always following the coach's instructions. Although his playing style may have lacked excessive improvisation and outward showmanship, the clarity and confidence with which he carried out his assigned tasks always provided invaluable help to the team.
Championships and Achievements
Havlicek ended his basketball career in 1978 at the age of 38 as an eight-time NBA champion, achieved with the Boston Celtics in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, and 1976. In 1974, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Finals. Over his 16 years of playing for the Boston Celtics, John Havlicek scored 26,395 points, made 8,007 rebounds, and recorded 6,114 assists.
