Biography of John Hodgman:

John Kellogg Hodgman was born on June 3, 1971, in Brooklyn, Massachusetts, USA. He attended Hive School and Brooklyn Middle School before graduating from Yale University in 1994. Before becoming a renowned writer, Hodgman worked as a literary agent at the New York City Writers House, representing authors such as Darin Strauss, David Grand, Deborah Digges, Donna Kantor, actor Bruce Campbell, and many others. Hodgman used his accumulated agent experience in his column "Ask a Former Professional Literary Agent" for the internet project of the publishing house McSweeney's.

In his pursuit of promoting his book "The Areas of My Expertise," Hodgman appeared on John Stewart's "The Daily Show" on November 16, 2005. The host called his satirical almanac "very funny," and Hodgman subsequently became a recurring guest on the show as a "resident expert." At the program's website, Hodgman is listed as one of its staff members. In February 2006, he also appeared on G4's "Attack of the Show!" to discuss the essence of his book and further promote it. He shared a sad story about a lobster and brought along his co-author and musical director of the "Little Gray Book" lectures, Jonathan Coulton, who performed the song "Furry Old Lobster."

Hodgman made another appearance on "Attack of the Show!" in October 2008 to talk about his latest book, "More Information Than You Require." Hodgman is also known for his voice work, having voiced the character of Charlie Jones, the "other" father, in the animated film "Coraline." He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife Catherine Fletcher, an English teacher at the renowned Stuyvesant School.
