Biography of John Joseph Lydon
John Joseph Lydon, also known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, is a British rock musician and former lead singer of the punk band Sex Pistols.
Early Life
Lydon was born into a working-class family in England, with his father working as a truck driver and his mother working in a bar. He attended a Roman Catholic comprehensive school and later a technical college. During his late teenage years, Lydon developed a heavy drinking habit.
Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd
In 1975, Lydon was invited to join the Sex Pistols as their lead singer. It was during this time that he adopted the stage name "Johnny Rotten." However, he left the band in 1978 and went on to form his own band called Public Image Ltd (PiL). Lydon remained the only constant member amidst the ever-changing lineup of PiL. The band toured extensively, including a concert in the Soviet Union (Tallinn) in 1988. In 1992, Lydon dissolved PiL and reduced his musical activity.
Solo Career and Other Projects
In 1997, Lydon released his first solo album, "Psycho's Path," which showcased a techno style. During this time, he also became involved in a high-profile legal dispute, which was filmed for an American TV show. Lydon occasionally collaborates with other artists and performs concerts with former members of Sex Pistols, admitting that it is primarily for financial reasons. He also published his memoir, "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs," in 1994.
Current Ventures
In January 2004, Lydon participated in the TV show "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!" filmed on a deserted tropical island, where he was accompanied by semi-nude female models. Despite showing signs of aging, Lydon remains faithful to the punk spirit and continues to be an outspoken critic of the hypocritical regime in Britain, staunchly opposing parasitic social classes. Additionally, Lydon has ventured into business, running his own cable TV channel and a real estate business. He currently resides in his luxurious villa in California, where he is preparing to record his second solo album. Negotiations are also underway for a biographical film based on Lydon's 1994 autobiography.
