Biography of John C. McGinley
John Christopher McGinley, an American actor and producer, was born on August 3, 1959, in New York City. He studied acting at Syracuse University and later at New York University. After completing his education, John participated in various theatrical productions, including those on Broadway.
Early Career
At the beginning of his career, McGinley was primarily sought after for supporting roles. In 1984, while working as a double for John Turturro in the film "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," he caught the attention of director Oliver Stone. In 1986, McGinley was invited to audition for the role of Sergeant Red O'Neill in the Oscar-winning war film "Platoon." He appeared alongside actors such as Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, and Forest Whitaker.
In 1987, John McGinley collaborated with Charlie Sheen once again in Oliver Stone's crime drama "Wall Street." The following year, he was cast as Stuart in yet another drama by the same director, "Talk Radio."
Breakthrough and Success
During the 1990s, John McGinley appeared in several cult films, including the action film "Point Break" (1991) with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, the crime thriller "Se7en" (1995) with Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Gwyneth Paltrow, and the action film "The Rock" (1996) with Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. He also starred in the adventure film "Nothing to Lose," the romantic comedy "Office Space," the comedy "Article 99," and the western "Wagons East."
In 1997, McGinley received critical acclaim and high praise from audiences for his role as serial killer Edgler Foreman Vess in the horror television film "Intensity."
"Scrubs" and Other Projects
In 2001, John McGinley was cast as Dr. Perry Cox in the comedy series "Scrubs" on NBC. The sharp and cynical Dr. Cox became one of his most successful and well-known roles. He portrayed the character for nine seasons, from 2001 to 2009. Additionally, McGinley worked on several voice-over projects, including voicing the superhero Atom in the series "Justice League," the character White Shadow in the animated series "The Boondocks," and Rudolph Funsch in the popular show "Kim Possible." He also provided the voice for the main character in the video game "Dead Head Fred" for Sony PSP.
In 2007, McGinley portrayed Chuck Mitchell in the family comedy "Are We Done Yet?" and a highway patrol officer in the action-adventure film "Wild Hogs," alongside John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy. His recent roles include a part in the comedy-drama "Party Down" in 2008 and voicing the character Metallo in the animated film "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" in 2009.
As a producer, John McGinley was involved in the creation of films such as "Watch It" (1993), "Sex and a Another Man" (1995), "Colin Fitz" (1997), and "The Jack Bull" (1999).
Personal Life
John McGinley has been married twice. He first married Lauren Lambert in 1997, and they had a son named Max, who was born the same year and has Down syndrome. Lambert and John divorced in December 2001. He then married yoga instructor Nicole Kessler in 2007. They welcomed a daughter named Billie Grace in February 2008.
