Biography of John Slattery
John Slattery, an American actor, is best known for his role as Roger Sterling in the AMC series "Mad Men," for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. He was born on August 13, 1962, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Slattery grew up in an Irish family with six children. He attended St. Sebastian's School in Needham and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Catholic University of America in 1984.
Career
In addition to his fame from "Mad Men," Slattery is recognized for his roles as Al Kahn in the series "Homefront," Walter Mondale in the HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon," and Will's brother, Sam Truman, in the show "Will & Grace." He has also portrayed Michael Cassidy in "Judging Amy," Bill Kelley in "Sex and the City," Dennis Martino in "Ed," and President Peter Benedict in "Jack and Bobby."
In March 2007, Slattery began filming the television series "Desperate Housewives," where he portrayed Gabrielle Solis' fiancé, Victor Lang, and later her husband until his character's death in the fourth season. He played Paul Moore, Katherine Watson's boyfriend and an art history professor at Wellesley College, in the critically acclaimed film "Mona Lisa Smile." Slattery also appeared as Howie in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Rabbit Hole."
Additionally, he portrayed Bud Gerber in Clint Eastwood's historical film "Flags of Our Fathers" and played CIA agent Henry Cravely in the biographical drama "Charlie Wilson's War." One of his recent roles was as Howard Stark, the father of billionaire inventor Tony Stark, in the superhero film "Iron Man 2."
Personal Life
John Slattery is married to actress Talia Balsam, and the couple has a son named Harry. Slattery has shared some details about what fans can expect from the fourth season of "Mad Men," which premiered on July 25, 2010. He joked about his character, saying, "Roger will get hit on the head and go back to rehab, again." He then revealed that the season would pick up where it left off and become even better, with Don getting divorced and the characters opening a new business.
