Early Life and Musical Education
Born in Norway, this renowned organist and music pedagogue began their musical journey in Oslo. They later pursued their studies at the Cologne University of Music under the tutelage of Michael Schneider (organ) and Hugo Ruf (harpsichord), further honing their skills in Paris with Marie-Claire Alain.
Triumphant Career
In 1977, their exceptional artistry was recognized with the First Prize at the International Organ Week in Nuremberg. From 1980 to 2001, they held a professorship at the Stuttgart University of Music, mentoring talented organists such as Jörg Halubek. Since 2001, they have shared their knowledge and experience as a professor in Oslo.
Contributions to Pedagogy and Music
As an educator, their significant contribution lies in the publication of the two-volume "Orgelschule zur historischen Aufführungspraxis" (Organ School for Historical Performance Practice), encompassing the Baroque and Classical eras in the first volume and Romanticism in the second. They have also served as an editor for editions of Georg Friedrich Handel's and Louis Vierne's music published in Germany.
Performance and Composition
Beyond their pedagogical pursuits, they are also a renowned organist, performing the works of Bach, Kittel, and Reszone. Additionally, they have composed original organ pieces, demonstrating their exceptional musical creativity and versatility.
