Jonas Bloquet: Belgian Actor Making Waves in Europe and Hollywood

Childhood and Early Years

Jonas Bloquet began life on July 10, 1992, in Belgium's commune of Watermael-Boitsfort. With no initial interest in acting, he instead pursued tennis and admired police films, aspiring to become a criminologist. As a teen, Jonas developed a passion for science and planned to study engineering.

Entry into Film

Bloquet's entrée into the film industry was rather serendipitous. A tennis club where he practiced posted a casting call for males aged 15-17 with racket experience. With some hesitation, Jonas sent a photo upon his mother's encouragement. Initially rejected for being too young, he was later contacted for an audition and eventually landed the lead role in the drama "Private Lessons." His star was born as he immersed himself in the film's two-month shoot, neglecting school. Jonas fell deeply in love with the art of filmmaking during this experience.

Establishing a Career in France

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in art from the European Baccalaureate School in Uccle, Bloquet moved to Paris to pursue drama and directing courses. Recognizing the greater opportunities available in France, he decided to build his career there. In 2013, he successfully applied to Luc Besson's prestigious film and television school, becoming one of 50 students selected from 2,000 applicants. Concurrent with his studies, Jonas secured a small role in Besson's dark comedy "Malavita."

Hollywood Breakthrough

Bloquet's determination to secure a role in Luc Besson's sci-fi epic "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" paid off. He landed a part that required him to wear a motion capture suit and walk on stilts. Jonas characterized this project as an unforgettable experience, one rarely found in France.

Personal Life

While often portraying LGBTQ+ characters on screen, Jonas Bloquet identifies as heterosexual. He shares personal and professional moments through his Instagram account. Standing tall at 190 cm, Bloquet has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

Recent Projects

2022 proved to be a prolific year for Bloquet. He starred in the war drama "Father and Son," presented at the Cannes Film Festival, and made appearances in the historical drama series "Marie Antoinette" and the Netflix horror series "1899." He also rejoined Taissa Farmiga for the filming of "The Nun 2," set to hit screens in 2023.
