Jonathan Douglas 'Jon' Quick, an American ice hockey player, was born in 1986 in Hamden, Connecticut. He attended Hamden High School before embarking on a career in the NHL. Quick's path to the NHL was fast and, as some say, somewhat predetermined by his last name, which means "quick" in English.
Early Career
Quick's early career included playing for the Avon Old Farms team and later for the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In the 2005 NHL Draft, Jonathan was selected in the third round as the 72nd overall pick by the Los Angeles Kings. He currently plays for the team wearing jersey number 32.
Rise to Success
Quick made his NHL debut on December 6, 2007, against the Buffalo Sabres, where the Kings won 8-2. The 2008-2009 season proved to be incredibly successful for the young goaltender, despite the team's overall lack of success. In a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Quick showed his skills for the first time. He made 22 saves against the Colorado Avalanche and 45 saves out of 47 shots in a game against the San Jose Sharks, which resulted in a 6-2 victory for the Kings.
International Career
Jonathan Quick is currently the youngest goalkeeper in the US national team. He earned his spot to compete in Vancouver based on his successful season in the NHL. However, he has yet to play in the Stanley Cup playoffs or represent his country in international competitions. It is expected that he will participate in his first NHL playoffs in the spring.
Olympic Dream
Many believe that the young and promising Jonathan Quick will gain valuable experience in Vancouver and may even be the main goaltender for the US team in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Quick, who is still in the early stages of establishing himself as a world-class goalkeeper, hopes to inspire his fellow countrymen with the message on his helmet, which says, "Support our team."
