Johnny Lee Miller, a British actor, is known for his roles in the films "Trainspotting" and "Hackers," as well as for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the TV series "Elementary." He is also the recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award.
Early Life and Career
Johnny Lee Miller was born on November 15, 1972, in Kingston upon Thames, England. He is the grandson of actor Bernard Lee, best known for his role as M in the James Bond films. However, Johnny has little memory of his grandfather as he passed away when Johnny was still young.
During his youth, Johnny participated in numerous theater productions. At the age of 17, he dropped out of college to pursue an acting career full-time. His first notable film role was in "Hackers," where he met his future wife, Angelina Jolie. He also portrayed one of the characters in the cult film "Trainspotting," based on Irvine Welsh's novel.
In 2008-2009, Johnny played the lead role in the TV series "Eli Stone," portraying a lawyer who gains the ability to see the future due to a brain aneurysm. He received a Satellite Award nomination for his performance. In 2010, he appeared in the fifth season of the series "Dexter," playing the main antagonist, attorney and rapist Jordan Chase, in eight episodes. In 2011, he starred in Tim Burton's film "Dark Shadows" as Roger Collins.
Since 2012, Johnny has been portraying the great detective Sherlock Holmes in the American detective series "Elementary." The show is set in modern-day New York. His partner in the series is actress Lucy Liu, who plays Joan Watson, a female version of Dr. Watson. Initially, Johnny was hesitant to take on the role due to similarities with the British series "Sherlock," but he changed his mind after reading the script.

In 2011, Johnny Lee Miller participated in the play "Frankenstein," directed by Danny Boyle at the Royal National Theatre in London. Johnny Lee Miller was previously married to actress Angelina Jolie from March 28, 1996, to February 9, 1999. In July 2008, he married actress Michelle Hicks, whom he had been dating for two years. They have a son named Buster Timothy Miller, born on December 3, 2008.
In his free time, Johnny enjoys running and cooking. He is good friends with actors Ewan McGregor and Jude Law and co-founded the film company Natural Nylon with them in 1997 (it existed until 2004).
