Biography of Joran Van der Sloot
Joran Van der Sloot was born in the Netherlands in 1987. He was known as a professional poker player, which was his main passion at the age of 22. However, it was his involvement in horrifying crimes that brought him into the public eye in 2010.
The Murder of Stephany Flores
On May 30, 2010, Van der Sloot met 21-year-old Stephany Flores at a casino in Peru. They went to his hotel room together to play online poker. Sadly, Flores' body, showing signs of beatings and strangulation, was later found in the same hotel room. Van der Sloot was apprehended while trying to flee to Vina del Mar, Chile, and was extradited back to Peru on June 5.
Connection to the Disappearance of Natalee Holloway
During the investigation, it was revealed that five years prior, on June 5, 2005, Van der Sloot was also involved in the disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway from Alabama. Although he was questioned twice in connection to her disappearance, there was not enough evidence to charge him. Holloway's body has never been found. Van der Sloot was last seen with her at a nightclub, but without physical evidence, no charges could be brought against him.
Public Reaction and Shaman Ritual
Following his arrest in Peru, several shamans wearing bright clothes performed a ritual near the police station, symbolically stabbing a cloth doll representing Van der Sloot. They claimed it was an act to rid the world of evil. However, the true justice system still awaits Van der Sloot, as he faces potential imprisonment for the murder of Flores.
Confessions and Legal Troubles
During interrogations, Van der Sloot initially denied any involvement with Flores but later confessed to the crime. Flores was a university student, and her influential Peruvian businessman father hopes that her killer will receive the punishment he deserves. Van der Sloot could face up to 35 years in prison. Due to numerous threats he has received, he does not want to serve his sentence in Peru. However, the more challenging aspect is proving his involvement in the murder of Natalee Holloway.
Claims and Additional Charges
Van der Sloot claimed that Holloway suddenly fell ill on that fateful day in 2005 and died in his arms. He said she wanted to continue having fun and engage in sexual activity but then started shaking and became silent. Instead of calling for help, he contacted a friend, and together they took Holloway's body on a boat and disposed of it at sea. While this version of events is highly questionable, no direct evidence linking Van der Sloot to Holloway's murder has been found. In addition to his murder charges, Van der Sloot also faces charges of fraud and extortion in the United States. He attempted to extort a large sum of money in exchange for information about the location of Holloway's remains and details surrounding her death.
Fears and Safety Concerns
Currently held at Miguel Castro Castro Prison, Van der Sloot is most worried about his own safety. There is a significant risk of retaliation from other inmates, making his personal security a top concern.
