Biography of Jorge Arce

Jorge Arce is a Mexican professional boxer who competes in the lightest weight class. He is currently the WBO champion in his weight category and has been a world champion in three different weight divisions. Arce is known for his trademark appearance in the ring wearing a black cowboy hat, earning him the nickname "Mexican Cowboy," and always having a cherry lollipop in his mouth.

Early Career

Jorge Arce started his professional boxing career at the age of sixteen, winning his first four fights. He suffered his first loss to future champion Omar Romero and had a draw with Gabriel Munoz in a series of fights in the summer of 1996. Arce then went on to win ten consecutive fights and captured two regional-level titles before losing to Jose Victor Burgos, a more experienced boxer and future IBF champion in the flyweight division, on December 12, 1997.

Arce bounced back from this defeat with four consecutive wins and earned his first world title, defeating Juan Domingo Cordova for the WBO championship in the lightest weight class. At the age of nineteen, he became a world champion. Arce successfully defended his title once before facing Michael Carbajal. In the eleventh round of the fight, Carbajal landed a powerful right attack that resulted in a technical knockout, ending the fight as Arce was unable to continue.

Continued Success and Title Defenses

After a four-month break, Arce returned to the ring and quickly won a regional WBO title. This was just the first step on his journey to reclaim all the titles he had lost previously. On October 20, 2001, he defeated Juanito Rubillar in a series of fights for the WBC championship in the lightest weight class. Nine months later, Arce defeated Yo-Sam Choi to retain his title.

In the summer of 2005, Arce had to move to a different weight category. He successfully defended his title until he had to face Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. Although he initially lost the title, Arce fought for it again and defeated Angel Priolo. Arce continued to have victories in this weight category, but in 2007, he suffered a loss to Cristian Mijares. Despite this setback, Arce had several wins in this division, and by 2010, he decided to move to another weight category.

On January 30, Arce defeated Angky Angkotta to win the bantamweight title, announcing that he would retire if he lost the fight. He then moved to the featherweight category and defeated Cecilio Santos on April 24. Arce's next fight was scheduled for June 26 against Eric Morel.

Outside of Boxing

In addition to his boxing career, Arce has gained popularity through his appearances in various comedic sketches on Televisa. He also participated in the dance show "Bailando por un Sueño," where he placed eighth out of nine participants. Arce has also worked as a boxing commentator for TV Azteca.
