Early Life and Education
Joseph Ackermann was born on February 7, 1948, in Switzerland. He grew up in a small village and faced various challenges and obstacles in his youth. One of these challenges was his education, as he had to learn the basics of literacy in a class of 60 other students. As a teenager, he had to ride his bicycle to a school in another city, as there was no educational institution in his hometown of Mels. For seven years, Joseph commuted to school by bicycle.

Family Background and Passion for the Arts
Joseph Ackermann was raised in a family of doctors. His father was particularly strict and emphasized discipline in his sons' upbringing. From a young age, Joseph was introduced to the world of music and painting to cultivate his appreciation for the arts. He learned to play the piano, cello, and violin. During vacations, his family would visit relatives in Munich, where attending the Munich Opera was a customary activity.

Career in Banking
After completing his military service, Joseph entered university against his father's wishes. He chose to study sociology and economics at the University of St. Gallen. In 1977, he successfully defended his dissertation and received a job offer from Hans Christoph Binswanger. Meanwhile, Joseph also served in the army and reached the rank of reserve colonel.
Early Career at Credit Suisse
Joseph Ackermann's career in the banking industry began at Credit Suisse, where he worked for 16 years. Starting from a junior position, he quickly became one of the leading figures in the bank. From the outset, Joseph was known for expressing his opinions directly and fearlessly, even in the face of potential backlash from superiors. This quality, along with his managerial skills, contributed to his rise in the organization. However, his outspokenness ultimately led to his departure from Credit Suisse when he clashed with the management.
Leadership at Deutsche Bank
Following his time at Credit Suisse, Joseph Ackermann received an offer to become the head of the board of directors at Deutsche Bank. After considering the opportunity, he accepted the position. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the bank and is its leading executive.
