Jan Kamil Kamaryt was a Czech poet and priest born in Velešín, Bohemia.
Early Life and Poetry
Kamaryt's initial collection of poems, entitled "Smíšená básně" ("Mixed Poems"), was published in 1822.
Collection of Czech Spiritual Folk Songs
In both 1831 and 1882, Kamaryt released compilations titled "České národní duchovní písně" ("Czech National Spiritual Songs"), which included a comprehensive preface detailing the characteristics of this poetry and ancient Czech church melodies.
Translation Work
Kamaryt translated a multitude of works from various languages, including French, English, Polish, and Russian, notably Derzhavin's ode "God."
