Early Career

Iloilo made a name for himself in the government and was elected to the House of Representatives. He then went on to serve in the Senate, where he established himself as a respected figure who valued his country's traditions and customs. Presidency and Political Changes

In mid-January 1999, Iloilo was elected as the Vice President of Fiji under President Kamisese Mara. In 2000, Fiji experienced significant political upheaval, and Iloilo led a coup d'etat that removed Mara from power, placing himself as the head of the state.

During his presidency, Iloilo aimed to restore lost traditions and implemented strict policies to bring order to the country. In 2006, he was re-elected for a second presidential term. However, his opponent, Frank Bainimarama, seized power in another coup, leading to unrest in the country.

Despite the challenges, Iloilo managed to restore law and order after the legitimate government was reinstated. In April 2009, he made significant changes to the political structure by invalidating the constitution, dissolving the judiciary, and imposing a dictatorial regime, with the intention of consolidating power in his hands.
