Origins and EducationBorn into a family of French musicians, Jean Calvé embarked on his musical journey at a tender age. He honed his skills at the Conservatoire de Toulouse before pursuing advanced studies at the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris under the tutelage of Guillaume Rémy.
Quartet Krettmann: Early Success
In 1919, Calvé co-founded the Quartet Krettmann, initially known as the Krettmann Quartet. However, it was not until 1928 that the quartet gained widespread recognition as the preeminent string quartet in France following the disbandment of the renowned Capet Quartet.

With the addition of Daniel Guilevitch as second violinist, Quartet Krettmann soared to new heights.
