Joseph Di Chiara: The Journey of a Canadian Midfielder

Born in Canada to Italian parents, Joseph Di Chiara kickstarted his football career with Toronto-based youth club Spartakus. Displaying exceptional leadership skills, he captained his age-group team under the guidance of coach Alexander Shikov.

Early Career and Professional Debut

In 2010, Di Chiara honed his skills at Howard University in the United States. The following year, he signed his first professional contract with Russian club Krylia Sovetov Samara, becoming only the second Canadian to play in the Russian Premier League after Ante Jazic.

Rise in Russia and Breakthrough in Prem'er-Liga

With Krylia Sovetov's youth side, Di Chiara made nine appearances and netted his first goal against Spartak-Nalchik in 2012. A pivotal moment in his career came on matchday 14 of the 2012-13 season when he made his Prem'er-Liga debut against Terek Grozny, replacing Kirillov in the 59th minute. His second appearance came in the following fixture against Anzhi Makhachkala, starting the match and playing the entire 90 minutes.

Return to Canada and Club Transfers

After his stint in Russia, Di Chiara signed with York 9 of the Canadian Premier League in January 2019. In October 2020, the club granted his request for a release. He subsequently joined Cavalry FC on a multi-year contract in November 2020. In January 2022, Di Chiara committed to remain with the club for the 2022 season.
