Early Writing Success

At the age of seven, Josh won his first literary prize by writing an essay in a summer camp contest. His review of the recently released film "Gremlins" stood out among the other children's works. The essay began with the phrase, "Spielberg did it again." By the time Josh turned 12, he was even recommended to work for the entertainment newspaper "Variety."

University and Career

Josh attended the Wheeler School for 11 years and graduated in 1994. In 1995, he fulfilled his childhood dream by enrolling at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts to study screenwriting. He became a member of the "Pi Kappa Alpha" fraternity and eventually became its president. During his second year, Josh wrote an autobiographical screenplay about his final years of high school. He submitted it to the prestigious "Nicholson Award" literary competition, the highest honor a student could receive. He won, but his victory was later revoked because the contest was only open to freshmen.

Television Success

In 2003, Josh wrote the screenplay for "The Orange County" for Warner Bros. TV and Wonderland Sound and Vision. He not only served as the writer but also as the executive producer for the series. At the age of 26, he became the youngest creator of a television series, which caused tension with the experienced producers at Fox. However, Bob De Laurentis, a television veteran, took Josh under his wing to mentor him in the television industry. The series, "The O.C.," premiered on Fox Network in 2003 and became a favorite among teenagers. The show was notable not only for its storyline but also for its carefully curated music, reflecting Josh's personal taste and the characters' personalities. Indie rock bands such as "Death Cab for Cutie," "Bloc Party," and "Rooney" were featured in the series.

In the spring of 2009, Josh created the web series "Rockville CA," which aired on TheWB.com. The series focused on young adults and a rock club in Los Angeles and featured over twenty live performances by indie bands such as "Lykke Li," "The Kooks," and "Kaiser Chiefs."

According to some sources, Josh is currently working on a new series for MGM called "Bright Lights, Big City," based on the cult novel by Jay McInerney. Stephanie Savage will be the producer alongside Josh. On the personal front, Josh Schwartz married Jill Stonerock on September 20, 2008, in Santa Barbara, California.
