Early Career and Australian A-League
Born on March 5, 1993, in Southport, Australia, Joshua Brilliante is an Australian professional footballer who currently plays as a defender for Sydney FC and the Australian national team. Brilliante began his youth career at Gold Coast United and made his A-League debut for the club against North Queensland Fury on December 1, 2010.
After a season and a half with Gold Coast United, Brilliante moved to Newcastle Jets in 2012. He made his debut for the Jets in a match against Central Coast Mariners on October 20, 2012.
International Career
In 2013, Brilliante represented Australia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, where he scored one goal in a match against El Salvador. He also appeared in matches against Turkey and Colombia.
On July 28, 2013, Brilliante made his senior international debut for Australia in a friendly match against China.
European Journey
In the summer of 2014, Brilliante transferred to Italian Serie A club Fiorentina for a reported fee of €1 million. He debuted for Fiorentina on August 30 against Roma. In search of regular playing time, Brilliante joined Empoli on loan in early 2015. He made his debut for Empoli in a match against Cesena on February 8.
Continuing his loan spell in Italy, Brilliante joined Como in Serie B in the summer of 2015.
Return to Australia and Club Success
In the summer of 2016, Brilliante returned to his homeland and signed a three-year contract with Sydney FC. He made his debut for the club against Western Sydney Wanderers on October 8, 2016. On November 19, Brilliante scored his first goal for Sydney FC in a match against Brisbane Roar.
Under Brilliante's leadership, Sydney FC won the A-League Championship in 2017.
