Joshua Clottey - American Professional Boxer

Joshua Clottey is an American professional boxer who competes in the welterweight division. He made his debut in the professional boxing ring in March 1995 in the welterweight category. In December 1995, he won the title of champion of Ghana in the welterweight division.

Loss to Carlos Manuel Baldomir

On November 29, 1999, Clottey faced Carlos Manuel Baldomir from Argentina. Clottey emerged victorious in the fight, but in the final rounds, he started to frequently violate the rules. In the 11th round, Clottey hit Baldomir with a headbutt, resulting in his disqualification and his first professional defeat.

Continued Success and Defeat to Antonio Margarito

Clottey continued to defeat his opponents and won more than 10 consecutive fights. However, in 2006, he faced a loss to Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito in a title bout for the WBO championship.

Victory against Diego Corrales

IBF Title Fight against Zab Judah

In August 2008, Clottey fought against former undisputed champion Zab Judah for the vacant IBF title in the welterweight division. During the fight, Judah suffered a cut above his right eye. In the middle of the 9th round, the referee halted the fight and sent Judah to the doctor. The doctor recommended stopping the fight due to the injury. Clottey was declared the winner by unanimous technical decision based on the scorecards after the nine rounds.

Fight against Miguel Cotto

In the fight against Miguel Cotto, Clottey was knocked down in the first round but managed to recover. In the 3rd round, both fighters clashed heads accidentally, resulting in a serious cut above Cotto's left eye. Clottey landed several good right punches in the 5th round but also suffered a knee injury. The bout continued with a tough and competitive fight. In the end, the judges awarded Cotto the victory by split decision.

Fight against Manny Pacquiao

In his fight against Manny Pacquiao, Clottey adopted a defensive strategy. Although Pacquiao managed to land a significant blow in the first round, Clottey effectively defended himself throughout the fight. In the later rounds, Clottey started to counterattack and had some successful moments. However, Pacquiao ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision, despite Clottey's strong performance.
