Josip Simunic is a Croatian football player who currently plays as a central defender for the German club "Hoffenheim". He has been a constant member of the Croatian national football team since 2001.

Early Life and Career

Simunic was born in Canberra, the capital of Australia, to Bosnian Croat immigrant parents. He took his first steps in football at the renowned Australian Institute of Sport, which has produced many famous Australian football players, including Simunic's good friend Mark Viduka.

In the 1995/96 season, Simunic joined his first professional club, "Melbourne Knights", where he had a successful debut season, winning the Australian championship with the team. He scored his first goals in official matches in the 1996/97 season, scoring 2 goals in 14 league matches. His talent caught the attention of European clubs, and in the summer of 1997, Simunic signed a contract with the German club "Hamburg".
