Joy Enriquez: American Singer and Actress
Early Life and Career BeginningsJoy Charity Enriquez, an American singer and actress, began her showbiz journey at the tender age of 11. She graced the screens of the popular talent show "Star Search," showcasing her vocal prowess in an impressive 11 appearances. Notably, her older sister, Tiffany Enriquez, also shared a connection to music, teaching vocals to future notable singers and songwriters.
Breakthrough with "Joy Enriquez" Album
Inspired by her daughter's performances, Joy's mother sent recordings to record labels in hopes of securing a contract. Their efforts proved fruitful when LaFace Records signed Enriquez. In 2000, she released her self-titled debut album, featuring the lead single "Tell Me How You Feel." While neither the album nor the single reached chart-topping success, they garnered enough attention to send Enriquez on promotional tours across countries like Japan, Germany, and South Korea. The album's release in the US coincided with the somber aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
Departure from Pop and "Atmosphere of Heaven"
Initially planning to record a second album in the pop/R&B vein, Joy's musical preferences took a drastic turn. She abandoned the project in favor of a contemporary Christian album titled "Atmosphere of Heaven." The record, released in 2006 on the independent label JoyfulChild, which she established with her husband, producer Rodney Jerkins, included the single "Get To Know Him."
Film and Television Roles
Beyond her musical endeavors, Joy Enriquez has dabbled in film and television. She appeared in the movie "Chasing Papi" (2003), voiced a character in "Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure" (2001), and had a brief stint on the TV series "7th Heaven."
Personal Life
In April 2004, Joy Enriquez married music producer Rodney Jerkins, who had worked on her debut album. In May 2008, they welcomed their first child, Rodney David Jr.
