Belgian Jurist and Historian
The distinguished Belgian jurist, whose name remains unknown, made significant contributions to the field of Flemish criminal law. His groundbreaking work, titled "Bijdragen tot de kennis van het oude strafrecht in Vlaenderen, verrijkt met vele tot dusverre onuitgegevene stukken" (Contributions to the Knowledge of Ancient Criminal Law in Flanders, Enriched with Many Hitherto Unpublished Documents), was published in Ghent in 1826. This comprehensive treatise contained numerous hitherto unpublished documents relating to witchcraft and heresy in the 16th and 17th centuries.
French Translation
In 1847, an abridged version of the aforementioned work was published in French under the title "Proc?s de Sorcellerie en Belgique sous Philippe II et le gouvernement des Archiducs" (Trials for Witchcraft in Belgium under Philip II and the Government of the Archdukes). This translation made the important research on Flemish criminal law accessible to a wider audience and cemented the author's legacy as a renowned historian of witchcraft and the legal system in early modern Europe.
