Biography of Jozef Stümpel

Jozef Stümpel is a professional Czechoslovak and Slovak ice hockey player. He played as a center forward throughout his career. Stümpel was selected by the Boston Bruins in the 2nd round, 40th overall, in the 1991 NHL Draft. On August 29, 1997, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. On October 24, 2001, he was traded back to the Boston Bruins. On June 20, 2003, he was once again traded to the Los Angeles Kings. On August 17, 2005, he signed a contract with the Florida Panthers as an unrestricted free agent. In total, he played 957 NHL games and scored 677 points (196 goals, 481 assists). In the playoffs, he recorded 30 points (6 goals, 24 assists) in 55 games. From 2008 to 2010, Stümpel played in the KHL for the Kazakhstani team Barys. In the 2010/11 season, he played for Dynamo Minsk.

Stümpel participated in the KHL All-Star Game in 2010. On May 3, 2011, he signed a one-year contract with the Moscow Spartak. In December 2011, the contract was mutually terminated. His last season, 2016/17, was spent playing for Liptovský Mikuláš in the Slovak Extraliga. After that, he played in the 3rd Slovak league.

Internationally, Stümpel won a bronze medal at the 1991 IIHF World Junior Championship as a member of the Czechoslovak national team. He also represented Slovakia in the Olympic Games in 2002, 2006, and 2010, as well as the World Championships in 1997, 1998, 2002 (gold), 2003 (bronze), 2004, and 2005, and the World Cup in 1996 and 2004.

Family

Stümpel is married to Jasmina Stümpelova since 1999. They have two daughters, Kali and Fia, and a son named Oliver.
