Early Life and Family
Juan Diego Botto was born to Argentine actor Diego Botto and actress and drama teacher Cristina Rota. Unfortunately, his father was kidnapped, tortured, and killed during the Dirty War in Argentina on March 21, 1977. At that time, Juan Diego was just two years old, and his older sister, Maria Botto, who also became an actress, had just turned three. Following this tragedy, their mother decided to move to Madrid, Spain with the children, where they still reside today. In 1979, Juan Diego and Maria welcomed their younger sister, Nur Al Levi, into the family.
Acting Career
Juan Diego Botto began his acting career at the age of five, starring in the Spanish comedy film "Martes y trece, ni te cases ni te embarques" (1982). He received his training in acting at his mother's theater school, Centro de Nuevos Creadores, which produced many famous Spanish actors. Throughout his career, he has played over 50 roles in television series and feature films, establishing himself as a highly experienced and renowned actor in Spain.
One of his breakthrough roles was in the drama film "Sobreviviré" ("I Will Survive") in 1999. This role not only brought him national recognition but also introduced him to international audiences and critics, as the film was translated into multiple languages and successfully screened in many countries. The film tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a man unaware that he is gay.
In addition to his success on the big screen, Juan Diego Botto has also played several leading roles in theater plays that were warmly received by critics in Spain. He has even tried his hand at directing with the theater production "Privilegio de ser perro" ("The Privilege of Being a Dog"), a play that explores the difficult lives of immigrants trying to reach their dream country and what awaits them afterward.

Currently, Juan Diego Botto resides in Madrid with his girlfriend, Spanish journalist and writer Olga Rodríguez. Apart from his acting career, he is actively involved in politics and has been a vocal protester against the Iraq War. He participates in support groups for children who, like him, have lost their parents.
