Early Life and Career Beginnings

Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Smyrna, Georgia, on October 28, 1967. Her brother, Eric Roberts, and sister, Lisa, are also actors. Their parents, Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus, divorced in 1971. Julia attended the University of Atlanta before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. She changed her name from "Julie" to "Julia" after discovering another actress with her name in the Screen Actors Guild.

Early Roles and Breakthrough

Roberts made her film debut in a brief appearance in the unmemorable comedy "Firehouse" (1986).
