Mustafa Mardanov was an Azerbaijani actor and renowned artist, known for his exceptional talent and contributions to the Azerbaijani theater. Born on February 27, 1894, in Marendeh, Iran, Mardanov began his acting career in the early 1910s as a member of various Azerbaijani theater groups in Tiflis.

In 1924, after graduating from the State Institute of Theater Arts in Moscow, Mardanov joined the prestigious M. Azizbekov Azerbaijani Theater in Baku. His performances were characterized by a vibrant folk comedy style, combined with subtle humor and irony. Throughout his career, he portrayed numerous memorable characters, including Gadzhi Gamar in "Gadzhi Gamar" by Vezirov, Imamverdi in "In 1905" by Jabbarli, Shvandya in "Love Yarovaya" by Trenev, Khlestakov in "The Inspector General" by Gogol, Shmaga in "The Guilty Are Not Guilty" by Ostrovsky, and Sganarelle in "Don Juan" by Moliere.

Aside from his theater work, Mardanov also ventured into the world of cinema and directed amateur theater groups. He also translated several plays into Azerbaijani language, further enriching the country's theatrical culture.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mardanov earned numerous accolades and honors, including three orders and several medals for his outstanding contributions to the arts. His talent and dedication left an indelible mark on Azerbaijani theater, and he was rightfully named a People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1943.
