Julia Smith, an American swimmer, was born on December 14, 1987, in Santa Rosa, California. She is a talented athlete who excels in the sport of swimming. Julia will represent the United States Olympic team in the 2008 Beijing Games.
Family and Early Life
Julia Smith owes her success to her parents, who instilled in her a fighting spirit and a passion for sports. Her parents, who were born in the Netherlands, have Dutch roots. Her mother was one of the top swimmers in her school, and her father, Peter, was also one of the most talented swimmers in the country. Julia has two brothers, Mike and Kevin, who are also involved in swimming. Mike has participated in the qualifying competitions for the 2008 Olympics, while Kevin is just starting his sports career but has already shown promising results.
Julia's family moved from Santa Rosa to Newtown, Pennsylvania, when she was four years old. They lived there until she turned eight, after which they relocated to Mount Sinai, located on Long Island. It was in Mount Sinai that Julia lived until she entered college. At the age of seven, Julia started attending ballet classes, but she gave it up at the age of twelve to focus solely on swimming, which she had loved since early childhood. Swimming Career
In 2006, Julia Smith was named the "National High School Swimmer of the Year." After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Stanford University, where she immediately became the NCAA champion. In 2007, she competed in the Pan Am Games, where she earned five medals, including four gold medals.
Julia Smith will compete in the Olympic Games in Beijing. She will be part of the relay team alongside athletes such as Katie Hoff, Natalie Coughlin, and Allison Schmidt. Julia is determined to win the gold medal in this competition.
