Early Life and Career
Julian Gollop was born and raised in England. He began his passion for game development at a young age, creating games for the BBC Model B computer in the mid-1980s. After learning to program on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, he developed several notable titles, including "Nebula," "Rebelstar Raiders," and "Chaos."
Founding Game Studios
In 1987, Gollop co-founded Target Games, where he developed the strategy game "Laser Squad." After Target Games closed in 1989, he founded Mythos Games, which became known for the "X-COM" series. Mythos Games was active until 2001, and Gollop later established Codo Games, which released "Rebelstar: Tactical Command" in 2005.
Ubisoft and Kickstarter
In 2007, Gollop joined Ubisoft as a game designer, working on two installments of the "Chessmaster" series. He later moved to Ubisoft Sofia in Bulgaria, contributing to "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars" and the early development of "Assassin's Creed III: Liberation."
In 2012, Gollop launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a remake of his classic game "Chaos." The campaign was successful, and "Chaos Reborn" was released in 2015. He followed up with another successful Kickstarter campaign for "Phoenix Point," a spiritual successor to the "X-COM" series which was released in 2019.
