American Model, Actress, and Comedian
Julie Michelle McCulloh, known professionally as Julie McCullough, is an American model, actress, and comedian. She was born on January 30, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Early Life and Modeling Career
Julie's family frequently moved when she was a child, resulting in her attending several middle schools. She first studied in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, then in Allen, Texas. As a teenager, Julie began working as a model and, after turning 18, she moved to California where she started posing for the popular publication 'Playboy'. She later appeared in documentary films by Stephen C. Confer dedicated to 'Playboy'. In his projects 'Playboy Video Playmate Calendar' of 1987 and 1988, she was featured as Miss February and Miss September, respectively. In 2002, she also participated in the television project 'Playboy: Inside the Playboy Mansion' by Edith Becker and Kevin Burns, as well as in the documentary film 'Playboy: Prime Time Playmates' by Logan S. Porter.
Acting Career
Julie made her television debut in 1984 when she played a small role in the comedy series 'Who's the Boss?'. For several years, she appeared in episodic roles in various television projects, including 'Max Headroom' and 'Golden Girls'. In 1988, she landed more significant roles, such as Suzy in the horror film remake 'The Blob' and Sarah Danner in the sci-fi series 'Superboy'. It was only in 1989 that Julie managed to secure a major role as Julie Costello in the popular comedy series 'Growing Pains'. However, the following year, after only 8 episodes featuring her, she was fired. She was dismissed after a scandal caused by the show's leading actor, Kirk Cameron. The reason for the scandal was that Kirk, who had recently become a Christian evangelist, started distancing himself from colleagues and fanatically adhering to the commandments of his new religion. He demanded Julie be expelled from the set because she had posed nude for 'Playboy', and accused the show's producers of promoting pornography. Ten years later, Kirk apologized to his colleagues on the show, explaining his behavior as impulsive and immature. However, Julie refused to accept his apologies, stating that her reputation had been severely damaged by his public attacks and the turbulent scandal.
After leaving 'Growing Pains', Julie went on to play Tina in the cult '90s youth series 'Beverly Hills, 90210'. This was followed by her role as Uma in the comedy series 'Harry and the Hendersons' in 1991, Lucy Johnson in the comedy 'Journey to Paradise' in 1992, and Betty Madigan in the thriller 'Dolls of Voodoo' in 1993. Throughout her acting career, Julie has appeared in more than 30 television and film projects. Among the most successful ones are the drama 'Me and Will' and the comedic detective film 'West from North Goes South'. The drama 'Me and Will' was released in 1999, starring Sherry Rose, Jason Hall, and Patrick Dempsey. The detective film 'West from North Goes South' was released in 2004 and featured Shawn David Thompson, Amelia Barrett, Morris Day, and Phyllis Diller.
Current Work
In addition to her television and film roles, Julie McCullough has participated in various reality shows. In October 2005, she appeared in 'The Girls Next Door', and in March 2007, she participated in 'May the Horse Be With You'. Julie also took part in the TV show 'Scott Baio is 45... and Single', during which she asked Scott Baio candid and humorous questions.
Currently, Julie performs as a comedian at 'Hollywood Improv', 'The Palms Hotel Casino', and 'Laugh Factory'.
